Garden Trail (Phase I)

The Award-Winning* Garden Trail in Burlington, Ontario is the region’s most successful example of brownfield redevelopment and environmental responsibility. Emshih Developments Inc., together with Losani Homes and Branthaven Homes, went above and beyond legislative requirements to incorporate and reintroduce significant environmental features into the development project.

The project faced many obstacles, including highway exposure, CN Railway issues, environmental assessment and lengthy environmental decommissioning, significant storm water issues, Ministry of Fishery concerns due to the Grindstone Creek crossing, and urbanization issues of surrounding neighbourhoods. Despite these challenges, the completed project has proven to be extremely satisfying to all neighbours and parties involved.  Garden Trail is in good company, with neighbouring lands including the City of Burlington Parklands, the Halton Conservation Authority, and the Royal Botanical Gardens.
